Materialise 3-D Printed Parts

Post by datdoan »

Hi All,

I am looking to 3-D print the parts for the performance edition OpenRAMAN via Materialise as noted on the bill of materials. I was wondering which options were chosen to print the specific parts?

The bill of materials mentions polyamide SLS, please could you confirm which options you chose and also for the polyamide FMJ pieces?

Laser sintering, sls stands for "Selective Laser Sintering "

FMJ -> Multi jet fusion

PA 12 should be fine to my knowledge

You might try dyed black for the finishing

Hope this helps

I confirm.

PS: did I write FMJ in the BOM or MJF? FMJ would be Full Metal Jacket, a typo :D

I think you wrote FMJ on the website, I figured it was a language translation thing :D

Thank you both, I assume for the following boxes, I do not need to tick them?

Sorry, another question too!

For printing the laser clamp, I have the below details. Do you know which technology, material and finish I need to select to 3-D print this with Materialise?

LASER CLAMP rev0 (RESIN)

The LD clamp should be stereolitography :) It's a process where you can get much thinner details and the parts look a lot like molded injection parts. The only downside is that they are very brittle (just like glass) so never try to rework them with anything else than sandpaper. For the LD clamp it will not be necessary, the parts should be very smooth and clean when you receive them.

Thanks Luc, and what would you recommend for the resin and finish?

You can ask for the support marks to be removed

stereolitography is a bit like filament in that regards, you need posts/support for the print and they need to be removed after

Thanks for your help Luc.

May I ask why the LC needs to be printed as RESIN over POLYAMIDE SLS? On Materialise the cost of printing the LC with stereolithography RESIN over POLYAMIDE SLS is £54 vs £15 respectively.

In the Excel breakdown of costs, the LC is reported to be ~£12 for the RESIN print but this pricing seems more like SLS costs. Is the RESIN the definite way to print the LC (also Materialise doesn't seem to give a black dye option for the RESIN whilst it does for POLYAMIDE SLS)?

Appreciate your time helping me with this!
