Re: Cheapest possible "toy" spectrometer? $323

Yeah one thing I am interested in doing is pulling together all the variables and make a calculator to get simulated results based on all your factors I listed before in that email. Right now, for example, there's not a way to easily know how much laser power you need to tell your limit of detection...

Re: Cheapest possible "toy" spectrometer? $323

I've lost a little bit of enthusiasm for this. In my experimentation it turns out Luc's choices mattered more then I thought. You need a pretty sensitive and high resolution spectrometer. You need a narrowwidth laser, and the lenses have to be aligned just right to capture the light. Without these i...

Re: Materialise 3-D Printed Parts

I think you wrote FMJ on the website, I figured it was a language translation thing :D

Re: Materialise 3-D Printed Parts

Laser sintering, sls stands for "Selective Laser Sintering "

FMJ -> Multi jet fusion

PA 12 should be fine to my knowledge

You might try dyed black for the finishing

Hope this helps

Re: Spectral resolution of spectromter?

This is hurting my brain a little bit. I think in my head the slit was projected directly onto the sensor but that doesn't make sense because for a 30um slit and 400nm range this would be a 12,000um big. The detector is 3.45um * 2048 so 7066um. So that doesn't make any sense. Okay so thinking of is ...

Spectral resolution of spectromter?

Based on my measurements, it appears to be 0.4 - 0.8nm based on the smallest two peaks that I saw resolved for the performance edition (30um slit). I found a theoretical equation online that looks like lambda = ((resolution factor) * (spectral range) * (slit width)) / (number of pixels * width of pi...

I've had the same issue though before but it worked for me after
I keep trying

Re: OpenRaman on homonuclear diatomic gas molecules

That might be tough based on my understanding, In Raman spectroscopy [1] McCreery notes that the how much raman signal you get back per molecule seems to be less in gas phase vs liquid by about a third (page 25). Given it's already .1% as dense you are looking at .03% concentration or 300ppm. I thin...

Re: Question about making the parts (cover, base plate, etc.) & analyzing soil

Here's my guesses at answers though it might be wrong: You don't want stray light, black helps absorb it. Inside the cuvette holder there is a mini beam dump structure. Whatever material you use try to avoid one that glows (floresces) PLA is more brittle and less precise. I think there are some phot...
