Re: Raman Thermometer

It's pretty noisy and there is a large influence of the laser itself.

I checked to reproduce your experiment but using a notch filter to remove the laser line but unfortunately it's horribly expensive (>$500 at Thorlabs)...

Can't you use peaks that are farther away from the laser line ?

Re: Raman Thermometer

It's a bit oversaturated to tell for sure but it does indeed look like a main mode + some side lobes of the laser. Also, if you want to see anti-stokes peaks you have to replace the dichroic mirror by a 50:50 beam splitter. The dichroic will prevent light below 540~550 nm from reaching the sensor an...

Re: Raman Thermometer

That looks very interesting -- thank you for popping it up I'd be particularly interested in gaining more information on peak broadening with temperature because I'm pretty much convinced that the current resolution is limited by the experiment and not so much by the spectrometer itself. nb: you won...

Re: base plate manufacturing

It's mostly a question of stiffness, damping and resilience even at very high fill ratio. For some applications it's ~okay~ but for demanding application it typically catch a lot of vibration which produces blurry images; I've also found that with time it tends to move/live which induce de-alignemen...

Re: base plate manufacturing

In 2019 I got mine from Materialize at 80€ (SLS). 250 looks more like CNC machining or did the price just became crazy?

Re: Bright Isopropanol

The second one is fluorescence for sure.

Can you try now to set the gain to zero and try and exposure time of ~10 sec ? If the image is still white, decrease the exposure time by 50% until you get something that does not saturate. We should see some lines then.

Re: Bright Isopropanol

Based on the images I would rather orient to a mis-aligned system. What integration time & gain did you use ? Even at 100 ms you should be able to recognize the Raman emission but here it looks like you're just collecting background noise. Would you have the direct camera image to share with us ?

Re: SpectrumAnalyzer New and/or Undocumented Feature DIscussion

Concerning the error you get, it's normal (well, sort of -- let me explain). SPC files have a very specific content structure where each byte in the file is coding for something (more about that here: https://www.thepulsar.be/article/implementing-object-persistence-in-c--/). Inside SPC files, you'll...

I'll answer in the newer post as it's a more appropriate location :)

Re: Beginner’s assembly tricks : Solid add-on + GalaxyView + Neon calibration

If I understand correctly, you can get spectra of stuff like neon lamp but not of a Raman sample. If that's correct, don't worry - you are experiencing the same difficulties as most people (including me) had during their first few alignments. Raman is pretty weak and it requires really good alignmen...
